Abel, Matthew
A retired machinist of the Skinner Engine Company, Matthew Abel, eighty-three, died in the home of his son, Leo W. Abel, 949 E. 23rd st., Tuesday morning.
The deceased formerly worked with the Skinner company for a period of forty years prior to retirement three years ago. Ill health began last August.
Mr. Abel was a member of the Holy Name Society of St. John’s parish.
Survivors are five daughters, Mrs. Rose Geiger, Mrs. Louise Schultz, Mrs. George Schroeder, Mrs. Henry Altermatt, and Mrs. Joseph Denitto, all of Erie; three sons, Frank J., Norbert W. and Leo W. Abel, all of Erie; 25 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Kate Bardroff, of Erie, and one brother, John G. Abel, also of Erie.
Mrs. Abel, the former Catherine Schlindwein, died in 1927, and two sons, Oscar and Aloysius Abel, also are deceased.
Friends are invited to call at the Francis V. Kloecker funeral home, 25th and Sassafras sts. The funeral will be held from there at 8:30 a.m. Friday after which a mass of requiem will be celebrated in St. John’s church. Interment will be in the family lot in Trinity cemetery.
